Al Davis was famous for coining the phrase, just win baby. That's what we will take away from today's game. The Stonemen hit the halfway point in the season with a record of 7-2 after a win against the Menomonee Falls Lakers by the final score of 4-3. Once again, this was an away game so my stats aren't the official ones, but here is what I have. Troy started on the mound, going 7 innings giving up 3 unearned runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 9 strike outs. He threw extra pitches because, for the first time this year, our defense didn't have its best game. He battled and kept us in there, but on a hot and muggy afternoon, his pitch count got up on him. Nick came on in relief in the 8th, giving up 1 hit with a walk and 3 strike outs. The 1 hit was a ball that fell cleanly between 2 fielders, and the walk was to the lead off hitter in the 9th. A sac bunt moves the runner to 2nd followed by a strike out and a soft grounder up the 1st base line, which Nick fields and tags the runner for the final out.
Don August on the mound which is always a challenge for teams. I admire how he works to set up hitters to get them out. Not so much when he does it against Lannon, but still love to see him throw. Nick had a big game at the plate with 4 hits, scored a run and stole a base. Donnie had a hit, stole a base and scored a run. Ty had a hit, scored a run and drove in 2 runs. Brett had 3 hits including a double, scored a run and stole 2 bases. Adam had a hit and a stolen base. Zimm drove in a run. Joe Erd had 2 hits and stole a base. Once again, we will take the win, as Dean and Dan were not at the game, leading to some shifting around. JB behind the plate did a great job as he usually does when he is in there. Nick took over for Dan at 3rd and made all of the plays. When Nick went to the mound, Jason, who was the DH, took over at 3rd base. Nice to have those movable pieces.
Next game is home on Sunday, July 3rd as we welcome the 1st place Bulldogs, who have a half game lead on the Stonemen. We follow that by hosting the West Bend Lithia on July 4th. Both games are 1 pm starts. See you around the ballpark!
