08/17/2015 - Brookfield Upset's Pewaukee/Schubert Hits Walk Off

Sunday, August 16, 2015 - Semifinals

(4) Brookfield Bulldogs 8 at (1) Pewaukee Muskies 3

One of the toughest things to do, whether you're a good team or you're a bad team, is beat a team 3 times in one season.  In Pewaukee Sunday, the Pewaukee Muskies were trying to do just that, defeat the Brookfield Bulldogs for the 3rd time in the 2015 season.  Brookfield jumped out in front first with 2 runs in the top of the 1st.  Parker Sniatynski and Kris Franzen had RBI singles for Brookfield.  The score remained 2-0 Brookfield until the top of the 8th when Brookfield erupted for 6 runs on 8 hits.  The big damage was done by Eric Ranchau and Ryan Hinz who's 2 RBI doubles helped spark the big inning.  Pewaukee did not go quietly scoring 3 runs in their half of the 8th.  Kurt Sarcia had the big hit, a 2 run single scoring Dominic Clamenti and Austin Hansen.  Pewaukee couldn't muster the comeback however after Greg Basthemer came on in relief of Jeff Lueck for Brookfield.  Ryan Hinz and Patrick O'Brien had multiple hit games for Brookfield, while Austin Hansen had a multiple hit game for Pewaukee.  Jeff Lueck has won 4 straight games for Brookfield on the mound.  Brookfield advances to the Western Division Championship game next Saturday, and they also earned a spot in the Land O' Lakes Grand Championship Tournament. Pewaukee now must play in the 3rd place game to determine if they will qualify for the Grand Championship Tournament.

(3) Sussex Cardinals 5 at (2) West Bend 7 Up 6

Much like the first game, it is tough to beat a team 3 times in one season, even tougher when you've defeated the team in uncharacteristic fashion the first two times.  In the first two meetings of 2015, West Bend has touched up one of the best pitchers in Land O' Lakes to the tune of a 17.59 ERA, against the rest of the Western Division, Travis Thompson entered Sunday's game with a 1.06 ERA.  Something had to give right?  Well it didn't look that way in the 1st.  In fact it looked like it was going to be a repeat of the first two games.  After West Bend loaded the bases against Sussex in the top of the 1st and nobody out, Thompson struck out both Adam Rohlinger and Matt Schubert but little Danny Mueller had a big at bat, following pitch after pitch before working a walk, and then Matt Parrent laced a 2 RBI single to give West Bend a 3-0 lead.  It remained 3-0 until the top of the 4th when Sussex tied the game on 3 unearned runs thanks to some spotty defense by the 7 Up.  It would remain knotted at 3 until the top of the 6th when Todd Johnson hammered a pitch over the left field fence to give Sussex the first lead of the game.  Sussex would tack on another run in the top of the 8th when Ryan Weissman would line a RBI base hit to give Sussex the 5-3 lead.  West Bend would cut it to 5-4 in the 8th when Matt Parrent's RBI double scored Daniel Mueller from first.  In the 9th, a lead off single to Taylor Koth, and with 2 outs and Koth at 3rd, Matt Schubert hit a walk off 2 run home run to help West Bend advance to the Western Division Championship game and earn a spot into the Land O' Lakes Grand Championship Tournament.  Sussex will play next Saturday and will have to win to have a chance to qualify for the Grand Championship Tournament.  Taylor Koth and Matt Parrent had multiple hit games for West Bend.  Todd Johnson had 3 hits for Sussex, and BJ Sabol and Ryan Weissman had multiple hit games.
